Native Title Lawyer Position

We are seeking a skilled Native Title Lawyer to join our team. In this role, you will act for respondent parties in native title claims and advise a broad client base on the native title and cultural heritage dimensions of major infrastructure and development projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of native title and cultural heritage legislation and be comfortable working closely with clients and Traditional Owners. You will also have the ability to solve novel legal issues, juggle multiple matters, and prioritize effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic advice on compliance with native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation;
  • Apear in Federal Court mediations and case management hearings;
  • Conduct due diligence investigations and deliver insightful assessment advice;
  • Support and lead negotiations on Indigenous Land Use Agreements and Cultural Heritage Agreements;
Requirements:
  • 1-4 years PAE experience;
  • Understanding of native title and cultural heritage legislation;
  • Ability to work closely with clients and Traditional Owners;
  • Interest in solving novel legal issues;
  • Capability to juggle multiple matters and prioritize effectively;
  • Ability or desire to run with matters with the assistance of a partner, as required;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Self-driven and able to meet deadlines;
  • Willingness to undertake pro-bono work, as required;
  • Enjoy working in a team environment;
