About The Team
Our Native Title and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practice is led by partner Jenny Humphris, a recognised leader in native title and cultural heritage law.
Holding Redlich represents respondent parties in most native title claims across Queensland, as well as in New South Wales and Victoria. We regularly advise local governments, government corporations, developers, and both public and private sector clients on the native title and cultural heritage implications of infrastructure projects and land dealings.
This practice forms part of our broader Property and Planning group and works collaboratively across the firm.
About The Role
As a lawyer in this team, you'll work on diverse and challenging matters. Your work will include:
- Supporting Federal Court native title proceedings, including appearances at mediations and case management hearings
- Advising on compliance and legislative requirements around native title and cultural heritage
- Conducting due diligence and providing assessment advice
- Drafting and assisting in the negotiation of indigenous land use agreements and cultural heritage agreements.
This is an exciting opportunity to deepen your expertise in a specialised area of law with the guidance of a highly experienced partner. You'll also benefit from career development opportunities and gain broader exposure within our leading property and planning practice.
About You
We are seeking interest from candidates ideally with experience in native title law, or who have litigation experience and are keen to develop and practice in the area of native title.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has 2–4 years post-admission experience (PAE)
- Has a sound understanding of native title and cultural heritage legislation or is willing to acquire it
- Is confident working closely with clients and Traditional Owner groups
- Enjoys both advisory and litigation work
- Enjoys solving novel legal challenges
- Can manage multiple matters and prioritise effectively
- Has strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Is self-motivated and deadline-driven
- Is open to pro bono opportunities as they arise
- Thrives in a collaborative team environment
- Is willing to travel for meetings or court appearances when needed
Why join us?
This is a fantastic role for lawyers who enjoy both litigation and advisory work. While prior native title experience is highly regarded, we're committed to supporting the right candidate's growth with training and mentoring. If you have a genuine passion for this field and are ready to grow your career in a meaningful way, we'd love to hear from you.
