Job Overview

This role is focused on supporting the Native Title Act and involves working with issues related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining three Tribunal Registers and ensuring that claims and Indigenous Land Use Agreements meet the required criteria for registration.

The role reports to the Manager, Legal & Compliance and supports the President, Members of the Tribunal and the Registrar in their functions under the Native Title Act.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Conduct legal research and provide timely support as required.
  • Assist with ad hoc requests from the Tribunal's assistance functions.
  • Support the administration of the Tribunal's and Registrar's statutory functions.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of relevant Commonwealth and State legislation and the Tribunal's statutory obligations.
  • Engage effectively with external clients and stakeholders through clear communication.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant legal qualifications or experience in legal research are highly regarded.
