Commercial Excellence Manager

We are seeking a seasoned commercial expert to drive profitability, productivity, and growth within our practice groups.

This role will involve providing commercially astute advice to shape decisions and drive performance. You will work closely with partners to deliver insight and influence outcomes, helping them succeed in their roles.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, with experience in a similar environment. They will be able to interpret complex financial data and turn it into actionable advice, while possessing excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Maximise Realisation: Monitor WIP, manage projects/matters, minimise write-downs, and provide commercial insights that drive stronger financial outcomes.
  • Shape Pricing Strategies: Advise the Pricing Committee on tender submissions, profitability analysis, and commercial risk. Champion smarter project scoping, LPM, and post-tender review to improve future performance.
  • Unlock Growth: Partner with Business Development to identify new client opportunities through market analysis, client research, and cross-practice collaboration.
  • Boost Productivity: Work with People & Performance and Finance to optimise resourcing, talent mapping, and utilisation across teams. Oversee promotions processes and recruitment approvals.
  • Upskill the Business: Deliver training to lift commercial acumen across legal teams.
  • Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5-7+ years' experience in a commercial or finance role, ideally within a professional services environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business or related field and a CPA/CA
  • Proven ability to interpret complex financial and operational data and turn it into actionable advice.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills - you'll need to influence and challenge the partnership constructively.
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to balance strategic vision and operational detail.
