About the Role

We are seeking experienced First Response Counsellors to join our team at 1800RESPECT, the national front door for people seeking support for domestic, family and sexual violence in Australia.

As a First Response Counsellor, you will provide telephone and online counselling to individuals seeking support, using your skills to assess their unique needs and provide brief, outcome-focused interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide telephone and online counselling to individuals seeking support for domestic, family and sexual violence
  • Assess the unique needs of each individual and provide brief, outcome-focused interventions
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to provide a comprehensive service
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance your skills and knowledge
Requirements
  • Minimum three-year bachelor's qualification in a relevant field
  • Eligibility to register with a relevant professional body (e.g. PACFA, ACA, AASW, AHPRA)
  • At least two years full-time counselling experience (case management not acceptable)
  • Demonstrated experience in brief, outcome-focused counselling (preferably telephone counselling) or equivalent experience in specialised domestic, family and sexual violence counselling, mental health services, crisis services, homelessness etc.
  • Demonstrated authentic, compassionate, empathetic responses in front-line service delivery/counselling role
  • Experience working across telephone counselling/intake/assessment roles
  • Capacity to work and support self and team in a complex and often demanding work environment
