About the Role

This exciting opportunity has arisen for an Operational Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the site operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, contractors, clients, and the public. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support, education, and advice to the site operations team, focusing on developing and implementing effective safety management systems.

Key Responsibilities

">

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

">
  • ">
  • Assisting site personnel in developing site- and task-specific risk assessments, operational procedures, and work instructions, while conducting ongoing reviews of effectiveness and compliance with risk control measures;">
  • Developing and/or reviewing the site induction process, considering both Qube and owner requirements for working on common user sites, and taking into account employees from diverse backgrounds;">
  • Liaising with third-party site representatives (Port Authorities, client reps, etc.) and regulatory bodies for investigations, information gathering, joint risk assessments, and communication of the Qube SHS Management Plan;">
  • Driving established SHS consultation and communications processes, including WHS Representatives, WHS Committees, and toolbox meetings;">
  • Providing site leadership and assistance in developing a safety culture and environment consistent across all safety-critical functions;">
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring site SHS Management Plans to meet site performance targets and corporate requirements;">
  • Establishing, implementing, and monitoring inspection and audit programs, including maritime safety requirements, mentoring staff in carrying out these activities;">
  • Implementing change management standards when processes change on site and ensuring compliance with change management objectives;">
  • Providing advice and support to the site manager to ensure adherence to legislative and legal obligations regarding WHS and workers' compensation;">
  • Leading, mentoring, and coaching site operations staff on SHS accountabilities to ensure effective implementation of SHSMS on site;">
  • Supporting site-based management with Return-to-Work and Injury Management initiatives;">
  • Analyzing site SHS performance, identifying trends, and following up on initiatives to address current or emerging trends;">
  • Compiling high-quality, accurate monthly reporting on SHS performance;">
  • Providing ongoing advice on best practice SHS by staying current with regulatory and industry SHS matters, including legislation, codes of practice, standards, and other shared resources.">

Training Responsibilities

The successful candidate will also be responsible for:

  • ">
  • Developing and implementing site training plans, skills matrices, and budgets;">
  • Scheduling, developing, and delivering training and assessment programs in consultation with Operations and Labour Managers;">
  • Coordinating necessary training resources at sites;">
  • Managing training records in line with Qube's record-keeping processes;">
  • Monitoring skill ratings in Microster in consultation with Operations Manager; ensuring consistency with training records;">
  • Monitoring learners' progress and determining when they are ready to be assessed and signed off as competent;">
  • Planning, coordinating, and overseeing part-time workplace trainers to conduct training and assessment;">
  • Coordinating traineeships;">
  • Closing gaps identified in audits;">
  • Providing monthly reports on State training activities.">

Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess:

">
  • ">
  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS/WHS;">
  • A minimum of five years' experience leading in an operational SHS environment;">
  • Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) skills;">
  • Experience in implementing and managing safety management systems;">
  • Ability to develop tactical plans to address safety issues;">
  • Heavy industry experience (mobile plant, lifting) preferred;">
  • Return-to-Work Coordinator certification;">
  • A High Risk Licence.">

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is $95,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
