Role Overview

The role of the Advocate for Children and Young People involves leading strategic efforts to enhance the safety, well-being, and welfare of children and young people in NSW. This includes monitoring, understanding, and advocating for their issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing leadership to promote the voices of young people and improve outcomes for them.
  • Monitoring and understanding the challenges facing children and young people.
  • Advocating for their rights and interests through effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing holistic solutions to address the needs of children and young people.
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in child rights and related legislation are essential.
  • A strong understanding of global principles, policies, challenges, and current trends relating to children and young people is necessary.
  • Knowledge of the NSW Machinery of Government is required.
  • Ability to utilize wide-ranging oversight and investigatory powers effectively.
  • Experience as an executive leader with proven strategic and business planning skills is desirable.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills are essential.
