As a dedicated professional in the field of animal welfare, you will play a critical role in promoting and protecting the well-being of animals in research.
The RoleWe are seeking an Animal Welfare Officer to oversee the health and wellbeing of animals within our BioCORE Facilities. As AWO, you will provide expert veterinary and technical support for animal-related experiments, promote collaborative environments, and assess animal welfare indicators.
Key Responsibilities- Animal Health and Wellbeing: Oversee the health and wellbeing of animals within the BioCORE Facilities.
- Expert Support: Provide expert veterinary and technical support for animal-related experiments.
- Collaborative Environment: Promote a collaborative environment between animal care staff, investigators, and animal user groups.
- Welfare Assessment: Assess animal welfare and environmental indicators, recommending improvements as needed.
- Protocol Development: Develop and update protocols for animal welfare and veterinary services.
- Qualifications: Degree in Veterinary Science, eligible for registration in NSW.
- Experience: Demonstrated veterinary experience.
- Species Expertise: Experience overseeing the welfare of a range of animal species used in research.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in animal surgical and non-surgical techniques, diagnosis, treatment, anaesthesia, and euthanasia.
This is a part-time role where you will work 4 days per week. You will be required to stay current with scientific literature and industry developments, providing consultation over phone, video call, or in person in the event of animal welfare emergencies outside of regular work hours.
