Senior Project Manager Job

A high-level project manager is required to lead a complex defence technology development program focused on advanced simulation and training systems. The role involves planning, executing, and delivering the program while ensuring alignment with defence standards, contractual obligations, and security requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience in programme/project management within the defence or aerospace sector, ideally with simulation, training systems, or mission system development. They will possess exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills at a senior level within defence, primes, and industry.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Project Manager will include:

  • Programme Leadership: Leading the planning, execution, and delivery of a multi-year defence simulation and training program.
  • Project Execution: Defining scope, objectives, schedules, and resources; overseeing system design, integration, testing, and milestone achievement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serving as the primary contact for defence customers and partners; building strong relationships and providing regular updates and reviews.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensuring adherence to defence standards (ASDEFCON, ISO, MIL-STDs), project frameworks, and security protocols including ITAR and clearance requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identifying, tracking, and mitigating risks, issues, and dependencies; seeking opportunities to improve cost, schedule, or quality.
  • Financial Oversight: Managing budgets, forecasts, and cost controls; leading multidisciplinary teams and negotiating contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promoting lessons learned and best practices in project management (PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile).

The successful candidate will also need to meet the following requirements:

  • 10+ years experience in project/program management within the defence or aerospace sector, ideally with simulation, training systems, or mission system development.
  • Experience managing complex, high-value, multi-year programs with multiple subcontractors and international supply chains.
  • Demonstrated success delivering projects under defence contracting models and project management methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills at a senior level within defence, primes, and industry.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strong technical understanding of defence simulation, training systems, or related technologies.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • NV1 security clearance or ability to obtain.
