About the Role:

The University of Melbourne seeks a highly skilled Research Fellow to lead forest resource assessments using remote sensing and participatory GIS mapping to develop investment frameworks for sustainable forestry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead forest resource assessments using remote sensing and participatory GIS mapping.
  • Collaborate with project investigators, contribute to high-impact publications, and present findings at conferences and seminars.
  • Liaise with industry partners and government bodies to ensure practical relevance of research outcomes.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of research students, primarily at the undergraduate level.

Requirements:

  • PhD in forest ecology or a related field.
  • Strong GIS and remote sensing skills.
  • Ability to design and implement field-based research programs while collaborating effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience in GIS, remote sensing, or participatory mapping.
  • Publishing research in relevant areas, commensurate with experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary research environment.
  • Experience in engaging with industry stakeholders and fostering collaborative partnerships.
