About the Project

Griffith University is seeking a PhD candidate to contribute to a research project focused on implementing and evaluating a lifestyle intervention program for women after treatment for breast and gynaecological cancer. The project, titled RECENTRE, aims to improve quality of life and reduce treatment-related chronic disease risks in these women through targeted lifestyle management.

Research Team

The research team is interdisciplinary and spans several institutions, including universities and hospital settings. The team is led by Prof Sandie McCarthy, Dean of Research (Health), and includes experts in exercise science, nutrition, nursing, public health, statistics, health economics, psychology, and implementation science.

Project Overview

RECENTRE is an NHMRC-funded project undertaken in partnership with Mater Foundation and Mater Health Queensland. The project involves the digitalisation and rebranding of the Women's Wellness after Cancer Program (WWACP) as a standard practice after treatment, Queensland-wide, across Mater Health facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of the RECENTRE program and evaluate its effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the RECENTRE program
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the RECENTRE program
  • Collaborate with the research team and broader interdisciplinary team
  • Design an innovative research project that enhances and fits within the parameters of RECENTRE
Requirements
  • Completed, or expect to complete, a bachelors degree with honours equivalent to first class honours or a Masters degree (AQF Level 9) incorporating a significant research component
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: epidemiology, econometrics, statistics, and work in the field of nursing, allied health, public health, or medicine
  • Evidence of a passion for behavioural change research in a health setting
