Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Officer – Level 1 to join our Systems Immunology group. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for conducting original research under limited supervision and contributing to team and Garvan research projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting research projects in an efficient and timely manner, with outcomes published under joint authorship in peer-reviewed journals
  • Contributing to team and Garvan research projects
  • Presentation of original research at national/ international scientific conferences, and as invited to seminars locally and/or nationally
  • Co-supervision and mentoring of students and junior research staff
  • Provision of supervisory assistance in preparation of research grant proposals, including contribution of data
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD degree in a related area of science or engineering or equivalent experience
  • Good statistical knowledge and programming skills
  • Good knowledge of biology, immunology background is a plus
  • Previous experience analysing and interpreting genomics data, such as targeted or whole-genome sequencing, RNA-seq, DNA methylation
  • Publications commensurate with experience
  • Comfortable working with Unix and in an HPC environment
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language (R, Python)
  • Familiar with version control systems
  • Experience with software containers, workflow management systems, databases, cloud computing
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills
