The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is seeking a skilled Data Science Researcher to join its Computational Biology group in the Data Science Platform. This team collaborates with researchers and clinicians across the institute's Research Programs and beyond, applying computational methods to analyze and interpret complex biomedical data.

The successful candidate will work on genomics studies with experimental and clinical researchers, contributing to all study stages, including design, data analysis, interpretation, and manuscript writing. They will have the opportunity to work on projects such as single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, RNA-seq, whole-genome sequencing, and circulating tumor DNA analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analysis of high-throughput datasets, focusing on biological interpretation
  • Preparing figures for publication and contributing to manuscript writing
  • Experimental design and planning
  • Creatingsustainable and reusable workflows using container and workflow management technologies
  • Developing best practices for computational workflows through evaluation and original method development
  • Staying informed on advances in computational methods, genomics, and biological domain expertise

About You

  • PhD degree in a related field of science or engineering
  • Strong statistical knowledge and programming skills
  • Good understanding of biology
  • Previous experience analyzing and interpreting genomics data, including single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, RNA-seq, and whole-genome sequencing
  • Publishes commensurate with experience
  • Comfortable working with Unix and HPC environments
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language (R, Python)
  • Familiar with version control systems and software containers
  • Experience with workflow management systems and cloud computing

Benefits and Salary

We offer a competitive salary package, with an estimated salary range of $90,000 - $120,000 AUD per annum, depending on experience.
