About the Opportunity

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is seeking a highly skilled Research Officer to join our Systems Immunology group. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to our mission to harness the power of genomics to better understand and treat autoimmune and allergic diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research under limited supervision, with a focus on genomics data analysis and interpretation.
  • Contribute to team and Garvan research projects, including the development of computational methods and tools.
  • Presentation of original research at national and international scientific conferences.
  • Co-supervision and mentoring of students and junior research staff.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in a related area of science or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Good statistical knowledge and programming skills, with experience in Unix and HPC environments.
  • Previous experience in analysing and interpreting genomics data, including targeted or whole-genome sequencing, RNA-seq, and DNA methylation.
  • Publications commensurate with experience.
  • Comfortable working with scripting languages, such as R or Python, and familiar with version control systems.
