The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is a world-renowned medical research institute driving breakthroughs in human health. We are seeking an exceptional Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join our team.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled software engineer to design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge tools and infrastructure for large-scale genomic analysis. You will collaborate with our computational biologists to create scalable cloud-based solutions that can handle massive datasets.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on impactful projects that translate into real-world benefits for patients and families affected by rare genetic diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy high-performance infrastructure for genomic data analysis using cloud-based technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement intuitive interfaces for complex scientific datasets.
  • Implement and maintain robust systems for metadata management, workflow orchestration, and data visualization.
  • Work closely with computational biologists to translate their requirements into scalable solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience with Python, C++, Go, Scala, Typescript, or other prominent programming languages.
  • Familiarity with databases such as Postgres, MariaDB, MySQL, and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code deployments and cloud environments like Google Cloud, Azure, or AWS.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to $134,000 + 11.5% superannuation + salary packaging (dependent on experience).
  • 3-year term contract with possibility to extend.
