
Nurse - Harm Reduction Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse to join our team in providing high-quality care to individuals struggling with substance use.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a harm reduction-based program that provides safer, pharmaceutical alternatives to the currently toxic drug supply. Our team is dedicated to increasing health equity by providing responsive, community-based services that are informed by the voices of people with living experience.
The SAFER Nurse will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide participant-centered healthcare, using a harm reduction, trauma-informed approach. You will be responsible for assessing, screening, and educating participants who are accessing our program, as well as developing individualized care plans and providing ongoing support.
Key Responsibilities- Care and Support: Provide high-level care and support to individuals with complex primary care health needs and active poly-substance use.
- Collaboration: Work independently and collaboratively with the SAFER team to support people contemplating or accessing prescribed pharmaceutical alternatives to illegal/toxic substances.
- Harm Reduction: Provide harm reduction support through collaborative risk reduction strategy.
- Care Planning: Develop and maintain individualized care plans, providing ongoing monitoring and support with participants in accordance with the care plan.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse registration with the BCCNM regulator.
- Minimum 1-5 years' full scope, outreach nursing experience working with people with high levels of poly-substance use and mental health challenges.
- Previous experience working in supervised consumption/overdose prevention services, safer supply or other harm reduction programs.
