Job Title: Clinical/Forensic Psychologist VPS5

At Chandler Macleod, we are seeking a skilled Clinical/Forensic Psychologist to join our dedicated team in Melbourne CBD. As a key member of our Criminal and Family Divisions, you will play a pivotal role in delivering independent clinical and forensic assessments.

Role Overview:

You will work on diverse cases, including trauma, mental illness, substance abuse, and parenting difficulties, providing expert assessments and recommendations to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children. Our mission is to support the justice system with comprehensive, expert insights into the mental health and developmental needs of young people and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed clinical and forensic assessments for cases.
  • Interview and evaluate children, adolescents, and families presenting with a range of clinical issues, including attachment disruptions, mental health concerns, and family dysfunction.
  • Develop comprehensive clinical formulations and risk assessments, providing written reports with defensible recommendations to the Court.
  • Appear as an expert witness in court as required.
  • Provide secondary supervision and guidance to Doctoral and Masters students on placement within the Clinic.
Specialist/Technical Expertise:
  • Proven ability to prepare thorough, research-informed, and clinically sound assessment reports for the Court, with clear, concise recommendations.
  • In-depth knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health, and theoretical frameworks related to family functioning and youth behaviours.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical assessment, formulation, and treatment of children, adolescents, and/or adults.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation concerning the Children's Court Clinic's operations and the broader systems we interact with.
  • Experience in Child and Youth Mental Health services or paediatric psychology.
  • Expertise in evidence-based risk assessments related to child maltreatment, family violence, and other offending behaviours.
  • Skills in conducting family assessments, including those involving young children and infants.
