To be successful in this position you will require:

Experience in vegetation and/or tree management Experience in works planning, prioritising and delegation of works. Demonstrated experience in a role involving direct communication with multiple stakeholders. Experience in general contractor and consultant management. Demonstrated ability to undertake analysis, generate reports and provide recommendations. Ability to provide sound leadership and clear direction to staff and contractors. Well‑developed computer, financial and written communication skills. Understanding of tree protection measures and systems to manage tree‑related hazards. Ability to communicate with the general public, social groups and contractors in a professional and courteous manner. Decision Making; proven ability to work independently and to provide advice on a broad range of issues. Capacity to organise resources – human, physical - to optimise efficiencies operations. Understanding of, and commitment to, OHS practices which ensure a safe and healthy working environment for staff and the public. Attention to detail which ensures accurate and up to date records are maintained. Ability to work well as part of a team. Flexibility/ability to act autonomously. Possess cultural and religious awareness and sensitivity. Good information technology skills, including practical familiarity with the key Microsoft Office applications and database structures. Relevant experience in project management and/or management of consultants and contractors delivering works. Awareness of asset management standards, procedures and practices.

The opportunity

The Trees & Facilities Officer is responsible for overseeing all tree-related works and activities across GMCT, ensuring that effective systems are in place to manage tree-related hazards and maintain acceptable risk levels for customers, visitors, and staff. This role will involve close collaboration with the Assets, GIS teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure tree data within GMCT systems remains accurate and up to date. You will also provide guidance on tree protection measures as required and establish new processes or schedules of work to support tree health and management across all GMCT sites.

Key Responsibilities included but not limited to

Manage tree inspections, proactive audit programs, and ad hoc or reactive tree reviews. Manage preventative maintenance tasks, ad hoc works requests via expert Arborist contractors and consultants. Manage and coordinate planting programs across GMCT’s sites Provide project specific and planting advice to Design Team and Projects Managers as needed Develop and maintain tree policies, strategies, guidelines, management plans, maintenance plans and procedures. Oversee all vegetation-related permits and associated statutory obligations. Ensure the establishment, relevance and maintenance of the GMCT tree-related asset data in GMCT systems, ensuring it is accurate and updated as required. Establish a clear risk management methodology around tree management at GMCT. Develop a tree pruning program to be undertaken by arboriculture contractors. Develop an annual tree planting program informed by relevant Conservation Management and Master Plans. Maintain data on vegetation coverage, tree population and biodiversity indicators. Actively monitor and manage tree related risks, including regulatory compliance, risks to life and property, and tree health. Support and perform asset inspections if required across GMCT sites. Complete tasks associated with general contractor management, such as KPI audits/inspections. Support the Contracts and Facilities team in the management of complex maintenance works if required across GMCT sites Work with the sustainability team on the implementation of tree related projects and initiatives
