State Sales Manager

As State Sales Manager, you will lead the state operations and create, manage and implement plans to deliver or exceed commercial, operational, and financial targets. You will lead the sales and business strategies, contributing to a successful and profitable business. To succeed, you will lead the channel plans, build strong customer relationships, and promote and expand our product offering to deliver profitable sales. You will oversee the running of the site, ensuring efficient operations and distribution alongside being a role model for culture, values and leadership mindset to build the capabilities of your team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Build and execute World Class State Operational Plans that deliver results for our business and customers
- Ensure team execute all sales strategies and initiatives as per plans and developed KPI’s
- Contribute towards long term strategic planning within the state and nationally
Operational Leadership
- Build and nurture productive relationships with senior stakeholders both internally and externally
- Manage the state P&L, expenditure and trade spend within the agreed budgeted guidelines
- Work closely with team and cross-functional stakeholders to develop sales forecasts across the State
- Analyse sales variances and implement appropriate measures to minimise
- Input into marketing activity and plans to maximise visibility and sales for the state
- Ensure timely and efficient receiving and dispatch of products at each site
- Establish best practice systems and processes to support the team to execute the strategy and deliver results
Sales Strategy and Execution
- Champion the voice of our customers and bring insights into our customers, competitors and the market.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring effective cross-functional engagement to deliver.
- Lead the short and long-term commercial agenda, manage pricing and contract negotiations to drive new business and sustainable growth opportunities.
- Set and track sales targets, align the key priorities, and hold self and others accountable for delivery of KPIs.
- Champion and input into key meetings, including StageGate, Marketing, IBP, to drive operational excellence.
- Utilise CRM systems and other sales tools to streamline sales processes and enhance data accuracy.
People Leadership
- Recruit, develop and lead a high-performing team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to build the key technical and leadership capabilities required for future success.
- Create and lead a positive ‘One Team’ culture for the state
- Lead adoption of W2HO and people processes within the team, including WH&S, to Group standards.
- Participate in talent reviews, identify critical roles and create succession plans for each critical role
- Set clear expectations and goals for the team, and regularly evaluate their performance against targets, driving strong performance and managing underperformance.
Safety Leadership
- Oversee team member safety at work and ensure provision of appropriate safety inductions and training
- Report and investigate all incidents, accidents and near misses and take reasonable action to eliminate, isolate or minimise hazards
- Manage in conjunction with rehabilitation policy and providers to ensure appropriate and timely return to work for injured employees
- Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken for employees that do not comply with health & safety policy
Key Requirements
- Extensive packaging experience in wholesale, retail or similar industry withina general management or sales leadership capacity.
- Experienced Business Developer
- Proven ability to lead and execute sales strategies.
- Proven People Leader
- Understands the P&L with a strong track record of achieving and exceeding KPI’s.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and customer engagement skills.
- Strong commercial acumen and agile in leading contracts, tenders and
- Understands the market and anticipates trends, taking a long-term sustainable view to build the strategy, considering the impact in the broader business.
