**The opportunity**:
The Research Assistant / Research Officer will support the bioinformatics activities of the Infection, Immunity and Global Health and Genomic Medicine Themes. This will involve implementing, maintaining and updating bioinformatics pipelines for the use of groups within each Theme under the guidance and supervision of the Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics group.

The Infection, Immunity and Global Health Theme addresses important health problems in children such as allergies, common infections, and immune conditions both locally and globally. One major focus of the Theme is vaccine development, testing, safety, and quality assurance using globally competitive vaccine trials expertise and international networks.

The Genomic Medicine Theme is dedicated to investigating disease mechanisms and clinical conditions that are primarily caused by pathological alterations in genes and chromosomes, with an emphasis on rare genetic diseases.

The Research Assistant’s main role is to consult on bioinformatics experimental design, provide training on standard bioinformatics analysis tools pertaining to genomics, transcriptomics (bulk and single-cell), epigenomics (bulk and single-cell) and perform analysis for the Theme’s members. They will work across a variety of projects and research groups as well as the entire project life cycle from conception through to analysis.

**Your responsibilities include**:
Managing the laboratory -omics datasets
Implementing existing bioinformatics pipelines and resources for the use of the Theme’s members
Liaising with IT and other Bioinformatics groups regarding infrastructure requirements
Providing support in analysing data for Theme members
Participating and engaging with the Transcriptomics & Bioinformatics Group activities (e.g., laboratory meetings, scientific retreats, laboratory duties)
Providing training on Bioinformatics analysis webtools

**About you**:
Degree/Honours/Masters/PhD qualification in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related discipline
Demonstrated experience in analysing, integrating and visualising next-generation sequencing datasets, in particular RNA-sequencing (bulk and single cell), ATAC-seq (bulk and single cell), ChIP-seq.
Proficiency in R, Python, High Performance Computing, generation of web resources and data visualisation
Effective communications skills, specifically in communicating bioinformatics concepts and results to biologists.
