The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

**About the role**

Strategy and Policy exists to protect the public through whole of National Scheme strategy, policy, engagement and regulatory governance functions that are effective and responsive. The directorate provides high quality services that are national and run across the professions we regulate. The Qualifications Assessment Policy team (within Ahpra’s Accreditation Unit) works in collaboration with other teams within Strategy and Policy and Regulatory Operations, to effectively support assessment of qualifications held by individuals seeking to register as health practitioners in Australia, including overseas qualified practitioners. We do this by providing expert advice and guidance on specific matters, and undertaking projects related to qualifications assessment policy.

This is a full-time fixed term (12 months) position and can be located in either our Melbourne or Hobart Ahpra offices working a hybrid arrangement.

**About you**

You will have demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgement and work independently in a complex environment. You will be able to effectively prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deadlines. We are seeking someone with experience in policy interpretation, who takes a holistic review, and able to make decisions in a timely manner. Previous experience in qualifications assessment, education policy will be highly regarded.
- Degree in a relevant field such as health policy or research, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and responsive, coping well under pressure, responding and adjusting easily to changing work demands and circumstances.
- Advanced research, analytical and conceptual skills as they relate to policy development, including the ability to effectively use relevant technology to find information.
- Advanced organisational skills including excellent time management skills plus the ability to prioritise workload in response to time critical targets.
- Advanced written communication skills including experience drafting policy, writing reports and recommendations, and preparing agenda papers.
- Advanced verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Advanced relationship building capabilities across a broad range of stakeholders.
- Advanced problem solving and analytical skills as they relate to interpretation of information including ability to exercise judgment and resolve issues independently within agreed thresholds and escalate issues as required.
