**Job Description**:
An excellent opportunity is available for a Program Coordinator (Victoria) to join the Immunology Division - Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics (ALIGN)
ALIGN is a national, Indigenous-led national alliance between community, health, research, government and industry, that privileges Indigenous leadership and sovereignty, in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, peak bodies and Communities, as well as research, clinical, industry and institutional partners from across Australia.
ALIGN is currently comprised of 6 nodes of activity in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
Indigenous governance will both underpin and lead ALIGN’s work, and be instrumental in bringing forward the voices, values, and priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, locally and nationally. Indigenous Governance Committees will provide culturally appropriate advice, guidance and leadership to researchers and other stakeholders.
The Program Coordinator (Victoria) will support the Victorian ‘node’ of this alliance to ensure its key deliverables are successfully achieved. This includes national programs addressing Indigenous governance, policy, capability development and data systems; as well as an immunogenomics flagship project delivered in Victoria.
Genomic medicine - healthcare informed by greater knowledge of our DNA - is advancing rapidly. Technology now enables us to ‘read’ our DNA and use this information for more accurate diagnoses, explore personalised treatments, and improve our outcomes. However, improving equity and access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to these services is essential to ensuring these benefits are fully realised.
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islande communities, services or professional bodies- Experience working in complex health, community or policy-related projects- Ability to synthesise complex information and use it to inform decision making- Demonstrated operational and project management skills, including budgets and reporting- Tertiary qualifications are preferred in health, project management, community services or a related field
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of genetics and genomics is useful but not essential, as training will be provided
Personal Qualities:
- A self-starter with the ability to set goals, develop priorities and meet deadlines- Demonstrated capacity to build respectful and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of professional and community stakeholders- Highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in the first instance in a part time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee Level 7 ($94,222 - $101,996). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
