**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Specialist Services (CSS) partner with treating teams within the division of Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS).

CSS is staffed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who advocate for, honour and uphold the expectations and values of our Cultural Protocols.

CSS ’_walk with’_ health care consumers, their family, carers, and community organisations to ensure their patient journey is positive, that their voices are heard and they receive the best possible care during their treatment, healing, and recovery journeys. An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Specialist who is empathetic, enthusiastic, and compassionate, to join our dynamic and evolving team. The successful applicant will be expected to provide high-quality customer service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers as well as staff of CHS.

This role is responsible for establishing and embedding positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, their families and community.

This position is based on site with the CSS at Phillip Community Health Centre, however you will be required to work across multiple sites as deemed necessary.

**DUTIES**:
Under the routine supervision of senior members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander CSS, you will:

- Provide consultation, support, liaison, and culturally appropriate and responsive care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with drug and alcohol, mental health, and physical health issues, their families, and community agencies. This support may include but is not limited to:
- providing well-being services,
- assisting with identifying goals and care planning,
- facilitating cultural security and safety,
- providing cultural translation for staff and clients,
- providing and facilitating access to early intervention services to aid disease prevention and health promotion, and
- supporting service or community groups and activities.
- Liaise with and offer cultural support through sharing of cultural knowledge to Treating teams and other clinical staff to ensure continuity and culturally sensitive case management practices.
- Assess and collaboratively identify the needs of consumers through embedding systems, providing advice on policy, procedures and research.
- Update and maintain records and databases, complying with records management processes, across a range of electronic systems to ensure information is accurate, stored correctly and accessible.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
