About VMIA
Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.
We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.
We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a risk professional to play a key role in providing end to end insurable risk advice that supports clients to reduce the likelihood and consequence of insurable events, provide insights into leading practice insurable risk management, and deliver a suite of harm prevention programs.
This role sits in our Insurable Risk Advisory team. The team provides insurable risk advice to all our client segments and seeks to ensure that these clients have optimal risk transfer arrangements and are working towards reducing their insurable risk exposure. The team also delivers harm prevention programs to reduce the risk of harm and cost of claims.
Your key focus will be embedded in developing trusted partnerships with VMIA's clients and deliver products and services in accordance with agreed service plans.
You work closely with the State-wide and Enterprise Risk Advisory teams, to deliver integrated risk and insurance advice to clients that also encompasses risks which are state-significant or require a State-wide approach.
You will become part of the Risk Services Division and a talented team of people who are passionate about doing work contributing towards a more confident and resilient Victoria.
This role will report to the Manager, Insurable Risk Advisory.
The portfolios that you will work with include Department of Health, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Department of Education and Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.
Who you work with
- You work across all our client segments and regularly communicate and consult with your peers in the Risk Services and Insurance Divisions to inform trends, market needs, changes, and new opportunities for clients.
- You are the lead client relationship manager for agency clients and facilitate your peers across the organisation to develop client service plans and maintain a comprehensive view of all aspects of our agency clients' needs.
- You work with other teams to design, develop and implement key client programs and initiatives and support the Head of State-wide Risk Advisory by delivering insurable risk services for system owners, community clients and at a state-wide level.
- From time to time, you may update the Chief Services Officer, reporting and presenting on strategic programs or initiatives.

About you
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role with extensive knowledge across Insurance and Risk Management.
- You have a successful track record delivering an end-to-end insurable risk advisory service, from needs analysis to insurance placement and helping our clients reduce the likelihood and consequences of insurable events.
- Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills, with close attention to detail.
- You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders to develop and maintain effective relationships to achieve objectives.
- You will be a team player, proactive and eager to support the others with client activities.
- You will have a positive can-do attitude and be adaptable to change/changing priorities.
- You will be client-oriented and with the ability to provide tailored service and communication styles as needed for different clients.
- You will have an eagerness to learn and improve with the ability to conduct your own research to try to uncover the unknown.
- You will be intuitive with the ability to pick up small ques of potential/beginnings of client dissatisfaction.
