The **People, Property and Security Division** works in partnership to deliver strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability. The division provides stewardship, support and services across integrity and conduct, property, fraud and corruption, security, performance management, rehabilitation management, recruitment, learning and development, inclusion and diversity, workforce planning and analytics, workplace relations, people support, culture and health, safety and wellbeing.

**The job**
As an Assistant Secretary you will be a member of the senior executive team, contributing to the broader strategic leadership of the organisation. You will work with the business to keep our people healthy and safe, and enable a high performing, capable and future focused workforce.

You will lead a diverse team with responsibility for:

- providing strategic and operational support on a range of people services across the department including culture, capability and development, diversity, recruitment, change management, work health and safety, and workforce analytics
- ensuring the workforce has the capability and capacity to support the department by being strategic, influential and providing high-quality advice and direction.
- collaborating with clients to shape solutions aligned to the department’s evolving needs.
- driving excellent client service to deliver outcomes.
- improving the departments’ HR capabilities and implementing new approaches to meet the needs of the evolving talent.
- implementing policy, programs, systems and consistent services to address departmental and whole-of-government people priorities.
- representing the department at high-level discussions with key stakeholders and external organisations
- providing high quality advice and support to the department’s senior executive
- promoting collaboration within the department, with central agencies and across the Commonwealth.

**What we are looking for**
To be successful for this role you will need to meet the Senior Executive Service capability for the SES band 1, and you will have the following:

- Ability to demonstrate your collaboration and agility with a proven record of delivering high quality and innovative financial management outcomes in a complex, politically sensitive, and operationally diverse environment.
- Ability to drive broad transformational change, both internal and external to the department.
- Outstanding leadership skills, a substantial record of achievement and a reputation for innovation and delivery of results.
- Excellent stakeholder relationship skills and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to explore opportunities and solve complex problems.
- Demonstrating a strategic perspective and ability to manage competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Highly developed management and stakeholder engagement skills and ability to represent the department at a range of forums.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all audiences, be articulate and persuasive and capable of guiding negotiations to a point of resolution in a facilitative way
- Demonstrated commitment to promote diversity, model the APS Values, APS Employment Principles and promote compliance with the APS Code of Conduct and the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours (DRIVE)
- Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity.

**Desirable qualifications**
Tertiary qualifications (and/or demonstrated equivalent experience) in an HR discipline is highly desirable as is professional certification with the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI).

**Security clearance**
This position requires a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at the appropriate level for this position.
