Policy Officer
3 month temp with the potential to convert
$40-$45 per hour + super
St Leonards office with WFH Flexibility

We are partnering with one of our top clients, who are a volunteer member association within the health industry. They are looking for a Policy Officer on a temporary 3-month contract with the potential to be converted to a permanent opportunity.

This role implements a range of policy and advocacy initiatives and manages the outsourcing of major surveys. It works with several Committees and alongside management’s efforts to represent their members and improve outcomes by identifying and responding to emerging issues in their industry.

You will be part of a small team so will need to have the ability to confidently work autonomously and stick to strict deadlines.

The successful applicant will be a competent individual who can research and analyse environments and issues which affect or have the potential to affect industry outcomes in Australia as input to the organisation's lobbying and advocacy efforts. This input can take the form of briefs, projects, submissions, and media/member communication and resource content.

Key accountabilities

Implementation, coordination and evaluation of projects or activities which may affect health outcomes in Australia and make recommendations on priorities
Contribute to survey activities
Engagement with key internal and external stakeholders in relation to the projects and/or activities
Analyse the impact and monitor the effectiveness of the organisation’s policy work
Draft responses to submission requests in a timely manner
Track and report on feedback and responses to submissions and policy priorities
Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders
Provide a high level of communication to key stakeholders on project accountabilities, goals and progress.
Draft resources and articles of interest for member communications for various member engagement channels
Work with the Federal Media Advisor in preparation of media statements articles and media kits as required
Provide advice to other staff or directly to member queries
Contribute to the operation of organisation committees
Provide expert policy advice and information to relevant stakeholders, both internal and external, to facilitate the appropriate interpretation and implementation of policies and support the organisation’s policy initiatives.

**Essential skills and experience**:
Analytical and problem-solving skills including excellent attention to detail
Primary and secondary research skills, including demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and design
Experience drafting submissions and policy briefs
Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
Capacity to work independently and in a team to deliver on projects
Interpersonal skills and experience building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Organisational skills and capacity to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality work within agreed timeframes
Experience working in policy or strategy related research/project management roles
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills including SharePoint

**Desirable skills and experience**:
Experience working in or with governments
Experience in a member association and/or the health sector
Experience in the design and conduct of primary qualitative/quantitative research projects

**Qualifications**:
Tertiary qualifications in social or health sciences or a related discipline, policy, law, economics or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
