What are we looking for?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Support Team Leader to join our Class Actions team in Melbourne. This is a full time role however part time applicants may be considered.

Our Class Actions team run claims on behalf of large groups of people, facing similar issues who ordinarily may be unable to access legal services on their own. Class actions run by the practice are diverse in nature and include shareholder, trusts, human rights, medical device and bushfire claims.

The Support Team Leader is responsible for managing a team of Legal Assistants that provide high level administrative support and management of the class actions portfolio in conjunction with their respective lawyers and legal teams. In this role you will lead the friendly and collegiate legal assistant team and supervise the file management across a portfolio of class actions that make a difference to the lives of clients. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Managing the reporting lines for the Legal Assistant team as well as supervising resourcing, recruitment, training and responding as the escalation point for ad hoc file management queries across the department
- Manage the monthly billing process for the department
- Manage financial reporting, matter opening, investigation level triggers and record keeping for investigations pipeline
- Manage relationships with third party service providers, including litigation funders, barrister’s clerks, expert witnesses, document management support, cost assessors
- Coordinate training for legal staff on file management, time recording and billing practices

In addition to these management responsibilities, the Support Team Leader is directly assigned to act as the Senior Legal Assistant on specific class actions within the portfolio. These duties will also include:

- Working proactively with the lawyer in the administration and management of class action files.
- Preparing, collating and filing court documents.
- Preparing briefs to counsel, experts, cost assessors and prepare court books.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to tailor the approach depending on the situation
- Ability to think innovatively and strategically, and follow up with sound and thorough execution and implementation
- Ability to multitask, flexible with good time management skills
- Ability to build strong and influential relationships internally and externally
