Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Manager to lead and oversee the end-to-end contract lifecycle across a diverse portfolio of commercial, government, and Defence agreements. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring contract compliance, mitigating legal and commercial risk, and driving alignment with strategic business objectives.

You will work closely with key internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver commercial value, uphold governance standards, and enhance contract performance across critical service delivery programs.

This role will be based in Canberra, however we will also consider applicants based in Brisbane or Melbourne.

Join a supportive and collaborative team environment, where you will have the opportunity to influence major government and Defence contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of complex commercial agreements including contracts with Australian and international Government and Defence clients, ensuring alignment with company policies and risk tolerance
  • Provide expert advice on contractual rights, obligations, and risk mitigation to project and leadership teams
  • Support the development of RFT responses and new business proposals, including contract reviews and risk assessments
  • Manage the complete contract lifecycle — from initiation and execution to renewal and close-out
  • Collaborate with internal legal, commercial, insurance, and tax teams to ensure alignment on corporate governance and compliance
  • Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as internal policies
  • Develop and implement performance KPIs and support Service Delivery Managers in managing customer relationships
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in contract governance, reporting, and commercial strategies

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Commerce or related field
  • 8–10 years of experience in contract management, including at least 3 years managing contracts with public sector or Defence clients
  • Deep knowledge of contract law, procurement processes, and risk management principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing or supporting contracts within a Defence or government environment, with a sound understanding of Defence procurement processes, contract frameworks, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated success negotiating high-value, complex contracts with the Australian Defence Force or government agencies
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated achievement-oriented mindset with a strong focus on delivering outcomes, meeting targets, and driving continuous improvement
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, high-compliance environment
