Location: Callaghan Campus, Newcastle, NSW, Australia – travel to other campuses may be required.

The Position

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science is a multidisciplinary program that focuses on improving human health and performance through exercise and related practices. It is fully accredited with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) at the level of Exercise Science.

As a teaching intensive Lecturer in Exercise Prescription and Delivery, you will:

  • Contribute to ensuring that the program adopts a curriculum and assessment structure that aligns with the exercise science professional standards as outlined by ESSA.
  • Develop and deliver a range of undergraduate courses in exercise prescription and delivery and professional practice.
  • Deliver an engaging program of study through a blended approach using both face-to-face and online delivery mediums.
  • Embrace new teaching pedagogies and participate in administrative activities with a view to enhancing the quality of the graduate profile.
  • Work cohesively within a team environment to strengthen current and future teaching programs and research priorities of the discipline.
  • Participate in activities (relative to level) to maintain academic standards and administrative effectiveness within the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy and College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing.
  • Participate in research activities (relative to level and role) that may include publishing research findings, supervising higher degree research students and attracting grant funding.

About You

You will be experienced in student teaching and supporting student learning.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Hold a doctoral qualification in Exercise and Sport Science or cognate discipline.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to undertake high quality teaching as indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes for students, and a willingness to improve or innovate in response to feedback.
  • A demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate level, taking responsibility for the preparation and delivery of course modules to large cohorts and coordinating one or more courses, including collaboration in curriculum design and delivery where appropriate.
  • Have published in high-quality outlets.
  • Be able to efficiently perform in allocated internal roles, sharing academic service responsibilities, contributing to outcomes of internal committees, and developing external relationships.
  • Hold accreditation (or demonstrated eligibility) with Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) at Level 1 or 2.
