1. Personal Care Assistance
● Helping with daily personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
● Assisting with mobility, transfers, and positioning (e.g., from bed to wheelchair).
● Administering medications as prescribed.
2. Household Assistance
● Assist with meal preparation and feeding if necessary.
● Performing light housekeeping tasks (e.g., cleaning, laundry, dishes).
● Helping with shopping for groceries and other necessities.
3. Social and Emotional Support
● Offering companionship and emotional support.
● Assisting with social activities and ensuring the individual remains socially engaged.
● Encouraging participation in community activities and events.
4. Assistance with Transportation
● Accompanying or driving the individual to medical appointments, recreational activities, or social outings.
● Assisting with public transport or arranging other transportation options.
5. Promoting Independence
● Encouraging the development of life skills such as cooking, budgeting, or maintaining hygiene.
● Supporting the individual in achieving their personal goals and enhancing their self-confidence.
6. Medical and Health Monitoring
● Monitoring for any changes in physical or mental health.
● Assisting with exercise, physical therapy, or other health-related routines.
● Reporting any health concerns to family members, caregivers, or healthcare professionals.
7. Documentation and Communication
● Keeping accurate records of support provided, including daily activities, medical treatments, and any incidents.
● Communicating effectively with family members, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals.
8. Advocacy and Rights Protection
● Ensuring the individual's rights and dignity are always respected.
● Supporting the individual in making their own choices and advocating for their preferences.
9. Technical Support for BrightHR and CTARS
● Helpdesk Services: Provide first-level technical support to staff, resolving issues related to hardware, software, network connectivity, and user access.
● Device Setup and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain computers, tablets, phones, and assistive devices used by staff and clients.
● Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues that staff may encounter with office equipment, software applications, or internet access.
● Remote Support: Offer technical assistance remotely for staff working in the field or from home.
10. Emergency Response
● Evacuation Procedures: Assist in the orderly evacuation of premises during emergencies, such as fire alarms or security threats.
● First Aid: Provide basic first aid assistance if needed until emergency medical services arrive.
● Crisis Management: Act swiftly in situations like fire, medical emergencies, or public disturbances, working in coordination with emergency services.
Employment Status: Full-time
Educational Requirements
- Certificate IV or higher in Disability Support, Community Services and Social Work, or related fields.
- Qualification: Certificate III or higher in Aged Care, Disability Care, Community Services, Social Work, or a related field.
- Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) – Must have or be willing to obtain.
- National Police Check – A current police clearance (issued within the last 6 months) is required.
- Current First Aid Certificate – Must have or be willing to obtain.
- Driver's License – A current NT driver's license is essential, as the role involves travel within NT, Darwin, and surrounding areas.
- Current Security License will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a disability services officer.
- Experience working with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) participants.
- Experience with Mental Health and Psychosocial Disability.
Additional Requirements
- Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in rural or remote areas.
- Previous experience in disability and mental health support work.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with participants and their families.
- Understanding of person-centered care principles for mental health or disabled individuals.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond to emergencies.
- Strong computer literacy for documentation and communication (Microsoft Office suite).
- Knowledge of local Indigenous cultures and issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
- Ability to understand a second language, particularly Indigenous languages, is highly regarded.
- Knowledge of local resources and services available to people with disabilities or mental health issues.
