Job Description

This role involves providing personal care assistance, household support, social and emotional support, transportation assistance, promoting independence, medical and health monitoring, documentation and communication, advocacy and rights protection, technical support for BrightHR and CTARS, and emergency response.

The Disability Services Officer will work with individuals who require support due to disability or mental health conditions. They will engage with participants in a respectful, professional manner, taking the time to understand their needs and goals. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, allowing the officer to build trust and rapport with clients, their families, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Personal Care Assistance: Providing assistance with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Household Support: Assisting with household tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Social and Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and companionship, helping participants to manage their emotions and develop coping strategies.
  • Transportation Assistance: Providing transportation to appointments, therapy sessions, and other essential activities.
  • Promoting Independence: Encouraging participants to take an active role in their lives, making decisions about their care and support.
  • Medical and Health Monitoring: Monitoring participants' physical and mental health, reporting any concerns to relevant authorities.
  • Documentation and Communication: Maintaining accurate records of participants' progress, communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Advocacy and Rights Protection: Advocating for participants' rights and interests, ensuring they receive fair treatment and respect.
  • Technical Support: Providing technical assistance with BrightHR and CTARS systems.
  • Emergency Response: Responding promptly to emergencies, prioritizing the safety and well-being of participants.
Requirements:
  • Certificate IV or Higher: In Disability Support, Community Services, and Social Work, or related fields.
  • Qualification: Certificate III or higher in Aged Care, Disability Care, Community Services, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Working with Children Clearance: Must have or be willing to obtain an Ochre Card.
  • National Police Check: Current police clearance (issued within the last 6 months) is required.
  • First Aid Certificate: Must have or be willing to obtain a current First Aid Certificate.
  • Driver's License: A current NT driver's license is essential, as the role involves travel within NT, Darwin, and surrounding areas.
  • Security License: Current Security License will be an added advantage.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a disability services officer.
  • ASD Experience: Experience working with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) participants.
  • Mental Health Experience: Experience with Mental Health and Psychosocial Disability.
