Overview

A unique opportunity exists for an experienced and strategic Project Manager to take on a senior leadership role across three remote Queensland schools. As Project Manager, you will provide high-level strategic advice and operational support to Principals and leadership teams, contributing to effective governance and school management.

This role is based at Bloomfield River State School and involves travel to Pormpuraaw and Lockhart River schools each term. Please note: departmental housing is not provided for this position.

Who We Are

Bloomfield River State School
Bloomfield River State School is a co-educational institution that serves students from Prep to Year 6. Located 80 km south of Cooktown, the school enjoys a scenic coastal setting with three distinct ecosystems: beach, river, and dense rainforest. It caters to the communities of Bloomfield, Ayton, and Wujal Wujal. The school has three multi-age classrooms, and its curriculum is based on the Australian Curriculum achievement standards, contextualized to fit the unique environment when possible. Language plays a crucial role at Bloomfield River State School, with the Indigenous Language Program Kuku Yalanji being taught across all year levels. The school values strong partnerships with parents, carers, and the broader community, founded on mutual trust, respect, and shared responsibility for student education.

Pormpuraaw State School
Located on the west coast of the Cape York Peninsula approximately 700km north-west of Cairns, Pormpuraaw is a beautiful small remote community well known for its coastal location, impressive sunsets and plentiful fishing. Pormpuraaw State School has a culture of care and of high expectations, inside and outside the classroom. The team at Pormpuraaw State School pride themselves on their commitment to the students and families of the community and regularly go beyond expectations to provide the best possible educational outcomes for all students.

Lockhart State School
Lockhart State School is a remote Indigenous school situated in the community of Lockhart River on the eastern coast of Cape York Peninsula. The community is approximately 760km north of Cairns nestled between Quintell Beach and the Iron Range National Park. To understand the school context of Lockhart State School, one must acknowledge the history and recognise and respect the cultural and language diversity of the community. Lockhart State School caters for students from Kindy to Year 12. The majority of students at Lockhart State School are English as a Second Language Learners. In 2025 the school has commenced re-implementing the local language in the curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with staff in various areas of the department to brief senior officers both verbally and in writing, as the occasion demands, on emergent and critical issues that may require sensitive management and/or immediate attention.
  • Ensure effective communication, integration, coordination and liaison occurs within the school, with partner schools and the region and with other external stakeholders and establish and cultivate effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders and clients.
  • Critically analyse, manage, and refine the school's corporate information systems and processes in line with continuous improvement practices, recommending adaptations and the use of technology to ensure ongoing alignment with changing business and policy requirements and shape new policy directions for the school across all financial, infrastructure and human resource functions.
  • Manage significant facilities projects including negotiating with external contractors to ensure accountability for school maintenance and develop and implement initiatives for facilities management, asset maintenance and replacement plans.
