Overview

The SafeHaven Lead will lead a high quality recovery orientated, trauma informed suicide prevention drop-in program. The SafeHaven provides rapid access to compassionate care from suicide prevention workers and supports access to appropriate services. The role involves working with Peer Suicide Prevention Workers to support people who use the SafeHaven.

The SafeHaven is an after-hours drop-in program open 5pm – 9pm, 6 days a week located at Kogarah. Evening work is a requirement of the role. Staff will receive training, reflective supervision and support to ensure delivery of a high quality non-clinical suicide prevention program. Staff will be supported to educate other staff and community members about suicide prevention.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in delivering an innovative suicide prevention drop-in program.
  • Lead high quality recovery orientated, trauma informed support for people who use the SafeHaven.
  • Collaborate with Peer Suicide Prevention Workers to plan and deliver service activities.
  • Facilitate education to staff and community members about suicide prevention.
  • Contribute to safety planning and non-clinical support for individuals experiencing suicidal distress.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field and/or extensive relevant work experience with individuals experiencing suicidal crisis.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of individuals and families in suicide prevention from lived experience and/or professional experience; commitment to reducing suicide in the community.
  • Experience in leading staff, service development, quality improvement, and coordinating care across health systems.
  • Experience delivering recovery oriented, trauma informed work and safety planning with people experiencing suicidal distress.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to navigate health systems and provide evidence-based psychosocial support referrals.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills; ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong time management and ability to prioritise in the face of competing deadlines.
  • Experience developing, establishing, maintaining and reviewing performance indicators and reporting systems.

Selection Criteria
  • Any tertiary qualifications in health-related fields and/or extensive relevant experience with individuals experiencing suicidal crisis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of individuals and families in suicide prevention; commitment to service goals.
  • Leadership experience and capability in service development and quality improvement.
  • Experience delivering recovery oriented, trauma informed work and safety planning.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and systems navigation skills; ability to coordinate transfer of care and provide authoritative psychosocial support referrals.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritise.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing performance indicators and reporting systems.
