NSW Health is committed to strengthening and improving access to culturally sensitive and appropriate health services for Aboriginal Communities. The Hunter New England Health area has Sexual Assault Services and new Domestic and Family Violence initiatives working with Aboriginal people and communities. The PARVAN Identified role supports Aboriginal children and families and works to ensure services are welcoming, safe and focused on healing. The role involves leading or progressing to lead work in Sexual Assault and Domestic and Family Violence for Aboriginal people, in partnership with managers and leaders, and coordinating cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal clinicians. The manager is the District Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Co-ordinator.
The role includes a professional development plan, access to cultural and clinical supervision and professional development through the NSW Health ECAV. This team includes First Nations staff and provides regular collegial and cultural support, networking, and planning.
Responsibilities- Lead or progress to lead the work of Hunter New England in Sexual Assault and Domestic and Family Violence for Aboriginal people, in partnership with key managers and leaders.
- Provide culturally safe and appropriate needs assessment and access to therapy, counselling and other supports and services tailored to the needs of Aboriginal people who have experienced sexual assault and/or domestic and family violence and their families.
- Coordinate cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal clinicians working with Aboriginal children and families.
- Share knowledge to enhance teams' understanding of culturally sensitive and responsive practice.
- Work under the supervision of the District Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Co-ordinator.
- Required recognised qualification in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology; interest in moving into a Clinical Leadership role; trauma-informed service experience or experience of working with community is advantageous.
- Role designed to support a less experienced clinician's transition into a senior leadership role if required.
- Accepted Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work (eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers)
- Degree in Psychology with full registration as a Psychologist (Psychology Board of Australia)
- Bachelor degree in Counselling or Welfare from an accepted provider
- Completed ECAV qualification pathway - Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma)
- Current Unrestricted NSW driver's licence
- To be eligible for permanent employment you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen with a current NZ passport. Temporary visa holders may be considered only if no suitable local candidate is identified.
