About NBMLHD

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a recognised leader in healthcare, providing a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region. The NBMLHD Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. The service includes specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect clients' right to choose from a range of treatments underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

Role Description

As the Senior Social Worker, you will provide continuum of care to pregnant women and their children during the antenatal and postnatal periods, within a community setting. This position provides specialist counselling and case management support services for patients who use drugs or alcohol and are pregnant or responsible for parenting children under the age of two.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist counselling and case management support services for pregnant patients who use drugs or alcohol and are parenting young children.
  • Deliver continuum of care across antenatal and postnatal periods in a community setting.
  • Collaborate within a medically led multidisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries and ethical practice.
What You Will Bring To The Role
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in drug and alcohol counselling and related areas (e.g., child protection, domestic violence, family relationship issues).
  • Strong ability to prepare high-quality written and oral reports and develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based psychosocial interventions addressing domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, and parental substance use; experience in monitoring outcomes and addressing child protection risks.
  • Experience maintaining professional boundaries and ethical practice in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience partnering with parents and families to address child well-being and reduce risks related to parental substance use.
  • Experience with client electronic record systems and timely escalation of significant concerns to medical staff or management.
  • Current Driver's License and willingness to travel for work.
