The Project
At John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville).
The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods.
The Opportunity
The primary objective of this position is to be responsible for providing leadership, coordination, coaching, and guidance to WHS Advisors, Officer and Trainees reporting to the position. Lead the implementation and documentation for the WHS systems and procedures associated with the Project.
Guide the Construction Team(s) with respect to developing a safety culture on North West Hub. Comply with the Project's WHS Policy, Management Plans, Systems, Standards and Procedures Lead the development of WHS consultation arrangements with workers and subcontractors, including coordinating and conducting WHS committee meetings and ensuring records of such meetings including recommendations, are maintained. Assist the Area Manager and Safety Manager with the development, regularly review and testing of emergency response arrangements and procedures. Maintain up to date knowledge and application of, legislation, industry standards and technological innovations as relevant to your role. Establish, monitor and maintain and communicate current information on legislation, codes of practice, relevant Australia Standards, hazard alerts and industry WHS developments Participate in site WHS audit program including conduct of subcontractor and internal audits for all project areas and prepare reports including improvement opportunities.We're about connecting your sense of purpose to ours.
