About the Role

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Writer and Editor to join our team. As a key member of our documentation team, you will be responsible for creating high-quality documentation that supports our safety management activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a range of procedural and guidance documentation, including manuals and technical guides.
  • Provide expertise in writing, editing, and quality assurance of technical documents, ensuring accuracy and clarity for a range of audiences.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops to determine current and future business requirements, and develop documentation to support these needs.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external communications channels to facilitate effective consultation and collaboration.
  • Utilize creativity and innovation to develop training and education activities related to the introduction of changes to our surveillance activities.
  • Work closely with the correspondence team to ensure consistency and high-quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for coaching others, providing performance feedback, and mentoring.
  • Develop and implement work plans and help set work area priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with Shared Services areas to ensure consistency and high-quality outcomes.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and proactively engage stakeholders with effective and considered communication.
Requirements
  • Significant experience in writing, editing, and quality assurance of technical documents, preferably in a government or regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in critical analysis, research, and interpretation of complex legislation.
  • Advanced skills in the use of MS Office suite, particularly MS Word and MS Excel, and Adobe Acrobat X.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical material for non-technical audiences.
Desirable Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or work experience.
  • Experience within the aviation industry, including sound knowledge of aviation terminology.
  • Demonstrated document management using TRIM/RM8 or a similar records management system.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, managing deadlines, and developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise significant evaluative judgment to deal with unfamiliar circumstances and/or sudden changes.
  • Experience in or good understanding of internal auditing practices.
Eligibility Requirements
  • At minimum, prospective CASA employees must undergo pre-employment screening.
  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
