About the Role

Austal Ships is seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our team. As an HSE Advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental well-being of our employees, contractors, and the communities we operate in.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Workplace Inspections and Schedule Compliance: Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead HSE Investigations: Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Conduct Audits, Risk Assessments, and Hazard Analysis: Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and hazard analysis to identify potential risks and implement controls to mitigate them.
  • Support Health Awareness and Management: Develop and implement health awareness programs to promote a culture of health and well-being within the organization.
  • Assist in the Development of Procedures and Safe Work Methods Statements: Assist in the development of procedures and safe work methods statements to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Support Business HSE Reporting and the Communication of HSE Trends: Provide regular HSE reporting and communicate HSE trends to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate Fitness for Work Initiatives, Including Drug and Alcohol Testing: Coordinate fitness for work initiatives, including drug and alcohol testing, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Requirements
  • Hold a Construction Safety Induction (White Card): Hold a current construction safety induction (white card) to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Have a Certificate IV, Diploma, or Degree in Health, Safety & Environment, or Similar Discipline: Have a relevant qualification in health, safety, and environment to ensure a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental principles and practices.
  • Have a Working Knowledge of HSE and Legislation: Have a working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Experience in Conducting HSE Incident Investigations, Utilising an Industry Recognised Investigation Methodology, Such as ICAM: Have experience in conducting HSE incident investigations using an industry-recognised investigation methodology, such as ICAM.
  • Experience in Providing Advice and Support to Management on Operational Matters Relating to HSE: Have experience in providing advice and support to management on operational matters relating to health, safety, and environment.
  • Experience in Conducting Management System Audits and Hold Internal Auditors Training: Have experience in conducting management system audits and hold internal auditors training to ensure a strong understanding of audit principles and practices.
  • Have an Intermediate Level of IT Literacy, Including the MS Office Suite: Have an intermediate level of IT literacy, including the MS Office Suite, to ensure effective communication and reporting.
  • Be a Service-Orientated Team Player with a 'Can Do' Attitude and Extensive Experience Building and Maintaining Strong Working-Relationships with Internal & External Stakeholders Alike: Be a service-oriented team player with a 'can do' attitude and extensive experience building and maintaining strong working-relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hold a Current Driver's Licence and the Ability to Travel Between Facilities: Hold a current driver's licence and the ability to travel between facilities to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
