About the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre

Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum.

We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being.

We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.

We are a value-driven organisation that strives to be part of a change movement that supports people seeking asylum by providing critical services such as assistance with accommodation, food provisions, casework and legal services.

The ASRC movement is proudly supported by a community of committed volunteers and supporters who embrace the organisation's vision that people seeking asylum can live safely, sustainably, independently and equally.

Our Values

The human rights of people seeking asylum and refugees are at the foundation of all we do and the workforce makes it happen, doing the work to bring the vision and purpose to life.

Our organisational values are:

  • Welcoming
  • Authentic
  • Courageous
  • Collaborative
About The Role

The Social Media Officer will utilize their creative skills in the social media space to support fundraising, advocacy, and service delivery and expand the reach of the ASRC brand on digital platforms.

The officer will be able to interpret key data and insights into powerful content that enables the ASRC to have maximum impact, whether that is with a financial or advocacy action or by facilitating a better experience for the community we support.

Through strong creative ideation, social media tool management, evidence-based recommendations, and the capacity to keep up with trends and best practices on social media, this position will contribute key social media content or ideas that will be developed jointly within the Marketing & Brand Department.

This role will be responsible for managing the social media schedule of the ASRC accounts (including the ASRC's own accounts, ASRC Foodbank, and the social enterprises), as well as monitoring and moderating the online community.

This position will also support, prioritise, and come up with innovative social media solutions for marketing demands resulting from cross-program requests, fundraising events (Appeals and Events), and other organisation needs.

The Social Media Officer will bring their passion for social media and contribute up-to-date ideas and trends from the social media space to the Marketing Team.

Their creative execution of social content will be key to generating reactions and conversations from the community that supports the ASRC.

About You
The successful Social Media Officer will possess the following skills, attributes and experience:

  • Versed and up-to-date in the social media space and with a passion for social platforms, latest trends and viral content. Bonus points for experience in creative execution of social content that is provocative and generates conversations.
  • Qualifications in Communications, Marketing or a related discipline and experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent creative, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to storytell and copyright, as well as an understanding or experience in culturally diverse work environments.
  • Experienced and keen to produce content with a variety of devices for social media apps (photography and videography notions will be helpful, as well as editing for Reels or TikToks).
  • Knowledge of social media analytics, google analytics and scheduling tools with experience in managing online social media communities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and exceptional organisational skills in digital document management.
  • High level of digital literacy to manage digital platforms, apps and software.
  • Exceptional stakeholder and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate and create positive outcomes for the organisation.
  • Up to date on the latest trends and best practices for online and offline tools available for social media creative work and project management (Canva, Sprout Social, Asana)
  • Knowledge of the policy context of practice with asylum seekers visa categories/conditions, and the barriers faced by people seeking asylum in Australia.
Lived experience of seeking asylum in Australia is highly desirable.

Knowledge of policy and issues impacting on people seeking asylum in Australia as well as previous experience working within a not-for-profit environment, would also be advantageous.
