About Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ)


The newly created entity of Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is the amalgamation of the Volunteer Marine Rescue and the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard.

The MRQ has a mission to provide a state-wide boating safety network, with a responsibility to both respond to situations and educate the boating public while supporting emergency service agencies during disaster and emergency events and other organisations for routine tasks.

Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a marine emergency service dedicated to protecting the safety of the Queensland boating community. Marine Rescue Queensland, established in 2024 is Queensland's first single integrated state-wide service, serving the state's coastline and waterways.


In this role, you will be part of the newly established Marine Rescue Queensland Unit and support work associated with the blue water rescue capability, dedicated to protecting Queenslanders in our oceans and waterways.

About the Role and You

Reporting to the newly appointed Chief Officer, Marine Rescue Queensland this critical role will form the backbone of the organisation as it ramps up to full operational capacity, Major areas of responsibility will include:

Implement and devise initiatives to attract, recruit, and retain MRQ volunteers.
Drive high performance by integrating people, culture, and sustainability strategies.
Provide high-level strategic advice on contemporary and emerging volunteering trends.
Develop partnerships across both government and non-government sectors, particularly around volunteerism, community safety, and emergency management.
Oversee human, physical, and financial resources ensuring client service and performance management.
Manage and respond to a range of high-level departmental and ministerial correspondence following governance and departmental requirements.
Oversee complex projects that align with the strategic priorities

We're looking for a passionate leader, who operates with a solution-focused approach, as well as collaboration, influence, and empathy.

You should have demonstrated experience in the planning, coordination, and management of volunteer and/or not-for-profit services, specifically relating to community services.
