About the role


National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity for a Manager Aviation to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.


NPWS delivers a diverse range of aviation tasks and activities in often challenging natural environments across NSW to support the achievement of NSW Government and NPWS corporate outcomes.

These aviation activities are primarily delivered by the ParkAir (NPWS owned aviation operator) and in partnership with numerous aviation operators across NSW.


This new role will lead and manage the recently formed Aviation Unit within the Fire & Incident Operations Branch, NPWS and oversee state-wide aviation coordination and risk management to optimize NPWS aviation operations.

The role will be responsible for the day to day management of the Aviation Unit staff, including assigning work and reviewing performance objectives.


Critically, the role will also be the nominated Safety Manager for ParkAir and work collaboratively with the ParkAir team to implement the Aviation Safety Management System (ASMS).


About you


To be successful, you will have experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders regarding aviation operations and safety management, including identifying opportunities and partnerships to support the safe implementation of aviation related programs.


You will have a demonstrated history of effectively exercising authority and making independent decisions in order to deliver high quality advice and/or projects on time and within budgets in a high workload environment.


Importantly, you will have a sound working knowledge of ASMS and experience promoting safety and security awareness within a positive safety culture based upon the principles of a 'just culture'.


Essential Requirements

  • Relevant aviation industry and safe work systems qualifications and/or relevant extensive experience in a dynamic operational aviation service delivery environment.
  • Knowledge of the statutory and operational environment for aviation services including an understanding of the Civil Aviation Act and the regulatory role of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
  • A solid knowledge of the principles of ASMS including accident and incident investigation, hazard identification and risk management, human factors, rootcause analysis development and delivery of safety related training and assessment.
  • Current Australian Drivers licence and a willingness to fly in light aircraft.
