Overview of role


The Water Network Specialists works closely with our operational partners, staff in the Assets and Operations Unit and external parties to enhance the health and operation of water networks.


This role reports to the Water Network Services Manager to coordinate, plan and assess the effectiveness of projects or programmes aimed to meet our strategic objectives.

The primary responsibilities of the Water Network Specialist role are to:

Further the development of Operational Management Plans for Water Networks to strive for 100% reliability in water supply to customers and ensure safe drinking water.

"Know the Water Distribution System" from catchment to tap to manage risks to water networks by developing strategic plans that include "Best Practice" to manage these risks.
Input into developing resilience strategies for water networks to meet seasonal demands and prevent outages during incidents.

Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, guidelines and policies related to the management of drinking water quality within the network including emergency management.

A snapshot of your day

As our Water Network Specialist, you'll be accountable for:
Understanding and improving operational procedures and management plans.

Providing oversight and technical advice to the operations group, strategic partners, technical planning and projects groups on water network quality and industry trends.

Identifying, developing and supporting implementation of water network strategies.
Overseeing the change management process / configuration management for water networks.
Identifying and developing operational contingency plans for water network.

providing internal training and development to organisational teams/individuals to drive best practice operational standards related to water quality risk, processes and management.

Monitoring and reporting on the performance of water distribution networks to ensure compliance with statutory, contractual and internal targets.

To be considered for the role you'll ideally have:
Knowledge and/or experience with operation and maintenance of water networks.

Experience working within an operational environment to optimise preventative and control measures to ensure drinking water quality risks are minimised and performance objectives are met.

A "Can do" approach delivering customer & community focused solutions, resolving "road blocks".
Considerable knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training and experience in a water industry operational setting; or
A relevant tertiary qualification, such as an Engineering or Science degree.
