About the office/school
The Mission of the School of Medicine, Sydney is to develop and train excellent, caring and ethical doctors. The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a 4-year graduate-entry program which combines Basic and Clinical Sciences (BCS),Communication and Clinical Skills, Population and Public Health, and Personal and Professional Development.
For the Foundation Years (Years 1 and 2), the teaching of Basic and Clinical Sciences curriculum is delivered principally through lectures, practical sessions, pre-recorded teaching resources and Problem Based Learning tutorials.
About the role
The BCS Curriculum Officer role is based at the Darlinghurst Campus and provides administrative support to the curriculum design, alignment and delivery of the BCS Teaching in the Foundation Years. It also provides support to the Head of BCS Domain in the Medical Education Unit. The role is critical to liaise with key academics and members of the Medical Education Unit to ensure smooth delivery of the teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating curriculum timetabling for all BCS lectures, practical, workshops and tutorials across the Foundation Years program (Year 1 and Year 2).
- Providing support to the Head of BCS Domain, including the coordination of Lecturer invitations, lab tutors and demonstrators’ recruitment, contracts and allocation.
- Providing administrative support in preparing materials for all BCS teaching activities, including prelab online readings, practical manuals, workshop and tutorial notes, online quizzes.
- Supporting in the planning of the yearly teaching calendar including all BCS teaching activities.
- Supporting in the organisation and delivery of the orientation programs, in conjunction with the MEU members.
- Supporting the implementation and maintenance of the curriculum mapping and management system.
- Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate).
- Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- A Degree qualification with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated administrative experience, preferably in tertiary or other health education sectors.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to plan work activity, prioritise tasks and work within tight timeframes to achieve optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and flexibility, with the capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Evidence of producing clear and concise written communication with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative, to constructively solve problems and make effective decisions based on knowledge of policy and procedures, while acting with discretion and maintaining confidentiality where required.
- High level of computer literacy and advanced user knowledge in Outlook, Microsoft Office suite, learning management systems and others as appropriate.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in using enterprise systems for travel, procurement, finance, staffing, students.
