About the Role


This is a perfect opportunity to join us as a Senior Advisor and safeguard the global research activities at the University. You’ll lead compliance programs that support the University's research endeavours. Utilising your expertise, you will deliver specialist advisory services designed to ensure robust risk management and compliance with regulatory requirements related to international research. This includes overseeing overseas funding requirements, export controls, sanctions, alongside synergistic subject matters areas such as conflict of interest, critical technology, and countering foreign interference. 

You’ll work closely with researchers and other stakeholders to enhance operations, ensuring alignment with university policy and Australian best practices while balancing overseas funding requirements. 

Your responsibilities will include:

Deliver high-quality advice, context-specific, timely advice and effective processes relating to export controls, sanctions and international funding governance; Design, implement and continuously improve processes to prevent and detect non-compliance, and training to influence a positive compliance culture; Analyse information to identify trends, risks, insights and recommendations; and Establish credibility and influence with stakeholders, and proactively undertake education and outreach activities to support a strong compliance culture


Who we are looking for
We’re looking for people with strong problem-solving skills who are passionate about supporting research, continuous improvement, and innovation. You should have a proven record of influencing and engaging others with your leadership skills. Your strong customer-centric focus will enable you to build robust working relationships, providing advice and consultation to stakeholders as required. 

You will also have:

A sound understanding of practical impact of government regulations/policy on research activities; Knowledge of international research funding programs with specific knowledge of United States and other () overseas governance requirements; and/or knowledge of regulatory areas such as export controls, sanctions, and countering foreign interference  The capacity to understand technical and complex regulation and explain specialist information to a general audience.

Having the ability to obtain an Australian Government Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance (desirable but not essential) will be an advantage.
