**About us**
Ormond College is the largest residential College at the University of Melbourne and host to
the Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship. Home to around 370 undergraduates, 50 graduate
resident students and 80 non-resident students, Ormond College is committed to providing

graduate and non-resident students who are studying at the University of Melbourne. We

experiences to our students through small group tutorials and individual consultations.
**Position overview**:
The Charles Goode Tutor in Economics is a **residential position** and is the Leading Tutor in
Economics and Commerce. Living on campus provides the opportunity to contribute to the
dynamic learning environment while also having the opportunity to pursue individual
research.
This tutorship has been established by Charles Goode AC, an Ormond Alumni, Fulbright
Scholar and eminent leader in the Australian commercial community with a distinguished
career as a director and Chairman of major public companies. It aims to bring the experience
and expertise of early-career researchers and academics to the students of the College, and to
enrich the life of the Senior Common Room community. The position is a fixed-term
residential appointment and may be renewed by agreement between the Tutor and the
College.
The Tutor will work with the Associate Dean, Academics and Enrichment, to provide
learning opportunities through a range of teaching modules including tutorials, seminars,
consultations, intensives and other teaching duties as negotiated. Fellows will endeavour to
form relationships with students and staff that foster an interest in their research and
encourage excellence in academic pursuits. There will be opportunities to mentor students
as appropriate.
**Key responsibilities**:
The Charles Goode Tutor in Economics will:
- Learning _
- Design and deliver a structured sequence of between 3 and 6 weekly tutorial or
learning events such as forums that responds to student enquiries and also addresses
key skills and conventions, core understandings and broader context for each of the
- Be at the college on Tuesday and Thursday evenings to run tutorials and support the
tutorial program and other tutors.
- Be available for between 6 hours of individual consultations per week during
semester.
- Develop additional academic and faculty-based experiences for students, including
possible “intensives”.
- Attend meetings relevant to the Academic Program as directed by the Associate
Dean, Academic and Enrichment.
- Engage in teaching and program design that is consistent with the Ormond
pedagogical model.
- Interview prospective tutors in their discipline at the direction of the Academic
Program Manager.
- Interview prospective students.
- Play a leading role in the professional development program provided for Ormond
tutors.
- Engage in planning for upcoming semesters, as well as undertake various projects
that may arise at the direction of the Associate Dean, Academic and Enrichment.
- Refer students to appropriate sources of support as needed e.g., Ormond’s Academic
Advisors, Community Counsellors or Associate Dean, Student Success.
- In collaboration with students, organising specific academic and professional
learning events or activities for students, such as speakers, workshops and intensive
teaching programs.
**_Community _**
- Be on-site during semester to support staff and students and work towards a vibrant
academic space.
- Be a positive and active member of the Senior Common Room, including attending
social events and formal meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues from departments other than Academic and Enrichment
to develop and enhance new initiatives.
- Attend ceremonial dinners of the College and other key community events.
- Model the values of the College and fostering a learning and community life based
on integrity and respect for all its members. Attend key community events in the
Ormond calendar.
