Your new role

The Community Engagement Representative position is an integral part of the delivery of the Carer Gateway services program. This newly created role is responsible for undertaking intake, assessment and planning services for Carers accessing support provided by the Carer Gateway across NSW

The objective of the role is supporting the Coordinator Community Engagement and Volunteering to promote Wellways services, work with hard-to-reach Carers, hidden caring cohorts or support Carers who are unable to access services via the Contact Centre in an outreach setting. This role will identify and facilitate opportunities that promote the inclusion of, and build the capacity of, people and community groups to access Carer Gateway services and achieve healthy, strong and connected communities.

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Engagement and Volunteering the role will work under limited direction and be responsible for:

  • Creating strategies to identify hidden or hard to reach carers and communities and support them to access the Care Gateway services and support.
  • Support Carers with a high level of customer service ensuring Carers are listened to with patience and non-judgement.
  • Provide Intake, Planning and Assessment services to Carers as outlined in the Carer Support Framework
  • Work with Carers to establish and implement agreed action plans.
  • Applying coproduction principles and methodologies to program development
  • Ensuring the service approach incorporates the following service principles: Carer Focussed, Practical and Flexible, Inclusive

Pre-employment compliance requirements

  • Certificate IV in Community Development
  • Thorough understanding of the caring role and evidence based, best practice Carer supports that enable Carers to sustain their caring role and enhance their own wellbeing and identity
  • Evidence of working rights within Australia (birth cert/passport/visa)
  • National Police Check (12 months old) and Working with Childrens Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate – free online course
  • COVID 19 Vaccination Certificate with Booster or valid medical exemption
