Newcastle, Australia Hudson Full time
Learn and grow within a landmark project Work across all areas within Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Permanent full-time APS 4 role based in Newcastle

High speed rail will connect Australian regions, cities and communities - delivering more job and lifestyle choices, greater housing options and new economic opportunities.

With a new world-class railway system at its core, the Australian Government's High Speed Rail Authority is planning for a future high speed rail network to connect Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and regional communities across the east coast of Australia.

The first stage connects Newcastle to Sydney - a nationally significant corridor - with a fast, reliable and regular link between the two largest cities in NSW.

Journey times from Newcastle to Sydney will be about an hour, and about 30 minutes from the Central Coast to Sydney or Newcastle - more than twice as fast as current travel.

The Australian Government has allocated $78.8 million to the High Speed Rail Authority to deliver the initial Newcastle to Sydney high speed rail business case before the end of 2024. This includes determining important aspects of the new rail network including the proposed alignment, station locations, the type of train to be used and the estimated cost and timeframe for construction.

The Role:

As an APS 4 Communications Officer within our newly formed Stakeholder and Communications team, you will support stakeholder and community engagement activities, enabling effective communication between stakeholders and the community.

You will contribute to the development, design, and production of communications and publications, and undertake a range of activities including managing and planning stakeholder and community engagement events, workshops, and meetings.

The role will also be responsible for arranging and book site tours and community information sessions to provide community engagement support to project teams, and creating, managing and maintaining project registers, databases, electronic files and records to ensure compliance with government document management policies.

This permanent full-time role will be based in Newcastle, but some travel to Sydney will be required until the Regional Office is established, with some further domestic travel required thereafter.

About You:

We are looking for a candidate who is ambitious, eager to learn, and excited about the opportunity to work on a high-profile project.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of training and experience in marketing, communications, stakeholder engagement, public relations, or journalism.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with staff and stakeholders at all levels and across multiple institutions.
  • Strong project management skills to achieve work goals and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with proven problem-solving abilities requiring critical thinking, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Any prior knowledge or experience working on infrastructure projects will be beneficial.
  • You will be required to travel to attend stakeholder engagement events, workshops, and meetings.

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to participate in establishing one of Australia's highest profile infrastructure projects.
  • Capability development opportunities tailored to your career goals.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Support for First Nations people and women's progression into senior leadership roles.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Candidates must have lived in Australia or have a verifiable background for at least the preceding five years.

How to Apply:

Applications close at 5pm AEST, Wednesday 21st August.

You should submit a current CV (no more than 3 pages) and brief expression of interest (no more than 1 page) outlining how your qualifications, skills and experience align with the vacancy.
