Join us and make a positive difference to the lives of people with disabilities, and to grow your career as part of our alliance of great minds. Our shared values are Passionate, Respectful, Ethical, Curious and Courageous.

Based on Awabakal land in Newcastle, we currently have opportunities for you to join our team and provide support to our clients, including respected Elders, by creating opportunities for connection to culture and community. We are seeking to make a practical contribution to social and cultural connectedness and improving wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people. This role will create meaningful client relationships, shaping not only the futures of others but also your own and ensure Aboriginal cultures and languages are supported.

These positions are part-time ongoing. Whilst we welcome applications from all candidates, these roles are targeted for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals. As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, these candidates will be assessed as a priority.

Working for us we can offer you a competitive hourly rate and amazing benefits:

  • The ability to spend time supporting and empowering Aunts and Uncles in your community
  • Flexible working hours and shifts across a 24/7 roster to fit in with your lifestyle
  • Up to 10 days unpaid leave per year for Ceremonial Leave
  • $100 per year Well-being Allowance that you can use to enhance your wellbeing (eg: purchase sports equipment, have a massage, take a meditation class)
  • Discounted gym membership for you and your family, using Fitness Passport
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Employee Referral Bonus Program, where you can be rewarded for referring a friend that joins CPA.

And if that isn’t enough, we also offer exceptional training to support you

You will have comprehensive training throughout your orientation, with ongoing learning and development. This includes:

  • Specialist training opportunities
  • Buddy shifts with CPA’s experienced Disability Support Workers
  • Opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification such as Certificate III in Individual Support and/or a Certificate IV in Disability
  • We invest $5,000 in training in your first year

Duties will include:

  • Building and supporting cultural journeys for Aboriginal clients through community activities to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enjoy high levels of social and emotional wellbeing
  • Delivering personalised support in a group home setting by assisting clients at mealtimes, personal care, administrating medication and manual handling
  • Identification of culturally safe activities in the group home such as musical therapy inclusive of the didgeridoo and clap sticks, or storytime and art
  • Ensuring clients have access to information to make their own choices and build skills to be more independent
  • Transporting clients, using CPA minivan, if applicable

Requirements

  • Knowledge and genuine commitment to helping clients to maintain a distinctive cultural, spiritual and physical relationship with their land and waters
  • Awareness of Closing the Gap Targets and Outcomes is beneficial to the role but not essential
  • Ability to navigate complex and diverse client family dynamics
  • A current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 minimum) is preferred
  • Live locally to Awabakal land
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity towards the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal people and their families.

A talent pool may be created for future roles and is valid for a period of 12 months.
