Disability Support Practitioner

Cerebral Palsy Alliance is seeking a Disability Support Practitioner to join our team in Wallsend, NSW, Australia. As a Disability Support Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting our clients, including respected Elders, to maintain a distinctive cultural, spiritual, and physical relationship with their land and waters.
Key Responsibilities- Build and support cultural journeys for Aboriginal clients through community activities to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enjoy high levels of social and emotional wellbeing.
- Deliver personalised support in a group home setting by assisting clients at mealtimes, personal care, administering medication, and manual handling.
- Identify culturally safe activities in the group home, such as musical therapy inclusive of the didgeridoo and clap sticks, or storytime and art.
- Ensure clients have access to information to make their own choices and build skills to be more independent.
- Transport clients, using CPA minivan, if applicable.
- Knowledge and genuine commitment to helping clients to maintain a distinctive cultural, spiritual, and physical relationship with their land and waters.
- Awareness of Closing the Gap Targets and Outcomes is beneficial to the role but not essential.
- Ability to navigate complex and diverse client family dynamics.
- A current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 minimum) is preferred.
- Live locally to Awabakal land.
- Knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity towards the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal people and their families.
