Melbourne, Australia Department of Health Full time

The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.

About the role:

With the significant number of health infrastructure projects in development or delivery a strong client-side interface to represent client requirements and interests is required. The department is establishing this function to ensure that as projects evolve, the projects remain focused on delivering benefits to the health system as originally intended in line with clinical and broader health system priorities identified.

The Investment Strategy and Client Office sits within the Department of Health and provides a key interface between the delivery agency and the Department of Health (the department) to manage concise and timely advice and clarification of project requirements, guidance on governance processes, reviews and approvals for any changes to ensure that projects integrate into the health system and the intended benefits are realised.

As the Project Manager, Client Office you will be responsible for activities to support project development, design, delivery and integration in collaboration with stakeholders.

The Project Manager will represent the department or client views in various forums and discussions. • Provide professional expertise and oversight to ensure the development and integration of a complex health infrastructure program to time, cost and quality requirements, ensuring alignment with health system priorities and requirements
  • Build strong relationships and competently negotiate with stakeholders, including project team members, Local, State and Commonwealth Government Agencies and community stakeholders
  • Provide active professional advice to support the procurement and management of contracts, monitor contractor progress and effectively negotiate variations, claims and other issues
  • Proactively identify and promptly respond to issues and project risks through exercising excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to pre-empt and mitigate project risks
  • Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders and undertake a range activities such as the preparation and/or coordination of reporting products, briefings, correspondence that inform decision making at project, organisational and portfolio levels

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • High-performing ability along with leadership, analytical, problem solving, policy development and communication skills
  • Experience and proven expertise in project management of infrastructure projects, with multiple stakeholders and significant risk management experience
